The Holly Green, the Ivy Green, the Prettiest Picture You’ve Ever Seen, It’s Christmas in Kilarney with All of the Folks at Home
Kitty: It’s almost Christmas Day! What traditions do you and your family do
every year (or every year that you can)? And what traditions would you like to
do that you don’t do now?
Estel: Well, we don’t have any traditions, except possibly usually celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve and going to a Christmas Eve service at church. This year, however, we are celebrating Christmas on Christmas Day, and we won’t make it to the Christmas Eve service but we’ll be at the Christmas Day service. I don’t know what I would like to do that we don’t do now, because I’m sick.
Kitty: My family has a Promise Tree. It’s a felt tree my Mom made. Every day
in December we open one of the 25 presents next to it, read the Bible verse in
the present, and place three ornaments (that are in the present) on the tree.
Sometimes we miss a day or two, but we always catch up when we can.
Estel: That’s a neat idea.
Kitty: We also get together with my Aunt (Mom’s sister) and her son sometime in
December to give each other gifts and spend time with each other (either at
their house or at ours). It’s always fun. I’m looking forward to it. We’ll go
to Aunt Pat’s house on Christmas Eve this year.
On Christmas Eve, each one of us opens one present that’s under the
tree. So this year, we’ll go to my aunt’s in the afternoon, probably leave
kinda late, and just before bed open a present.
Which song is it that has “and presents on the tree” in it?
For some reason I can’t remember for sure. Anyway, I’ve thought that was a cool
idea. I’ve done it a couple times before. Got up at midnight or 1am or 2am,
put on my santa hat, crept downstairs, turned on the tree lights (to see by, and
it’s just pretty), placed my presents, maybe admired it for a little, turned off
the lights, and crept back into my room. And of course, I have to say
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.” But I usually
wisper it.
Estel: Another neat idea. I don’t know any song with those words; sorry! We sometimes put presents in our tree.

So, why and how exactly are you two sharing this blog? I’m sorry, I just find it kind of… interesting… or something.
By the way, the song with those words in it is “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”

My family has a Bing Crosby Christmas CD with both “Christmas in Kilarney” and “Mele Kalikimaka” on it.
Happy New Year!

Yay, Shannon! So you know how cool those songs are!
We had that CD, too. It got misplaced or lost or something. Fortunately, we do have it on RECORD! And we have a working record player!!! (those things are soo cool!)
Caleb, Estel and I are good friends. I thought she might like to post things sometimes without getting her own blog. I (talked to her about it first) registered her, and promoted her so she can post. I think anybody can still register on my blog, but I have to approve them before they can do anything. And that’s how it works.

Cool, we have a working record player too, lol.
Ah, I see, so I can register and you’ll let me post too? You know, since we’re such good friends and all.

We have a record player/radio that was my great grandma’s I think. But it does not work.

What, noone wants to share any traditions?
Comment by Kitty Pryde — January 2, 2006 @ 8:14 pm
Maybe no one else has any traditions.

Wow! Record player. I haven’t seen one of those since ours broke a few years ago. The other day my brother (who is 11) asked “what’s a record?” I guess that makes since that he wouldn’t remember what it was…
We have no particular traditions; just eating a lot of good food

Noone has anything they don’t do but want to make a tradition?
Eating a lot of good food is good.

Usualy we go to Indiana and on Christmas Eve we open presents with my mom’s family and then on Christmas day we open gifts and have a White Elephant with my dad’s parents.
Also my grandpa always makes chili for Christmas Eve.
If we stay home then we go to the Christmas Eve service then open our gifts on Christmas day.
