The Holly Green, the Ivy Green, the Prettiest Picture You’ve Ever Seen, It’s Christmas in Kilarney with All of the Folks at Home
Kitty: It’s almost Christmas Day! What traditions do you and your family do
every year (or every year that you can)? And what traditions would you like to
do that you don’t do now?
Estel: Well, we don’t have any traditions, except possibly usually celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve and going to a Christmas Eve service at church. This year, however, we are celebrating Christmas on Christmas Day, and we won’t make it to the Christmas Eve service but we’ll be at the Christmas Day service. I don’t know what I would like to do that we don’t do now, because I’m sick.
Kitty: My family has a Promise Tree. It’s a felt tree my Mom made. Every day
in December we open one of the 25 presents next to it, read the Bible verse in
the present, and place three ornaments (that are in the present) on the tree.
Sometimes we miss a day or two, but we always catch up when we can.
Estel: That’s a neat idea.
Kitty: We also get together with my Aunt (Mom’s sister) and her son sometime in
December to give each other gifts and spend time with each other (either at
their house or at ours). It’s always fun. I’m looking forward to it. We’ll go
to Aunt Pat’s house on Christmas Eve this year.
On Christmas Eve, each one of us opens one present that’s under the
tree. So this year, we’ll go to my aunt’s in the afternoon, probably leave
kinda late, and just before bed open a present.
Which song is it that has “and presents on the tree” in it?
For some reason I can’t remember for sure. Anyway, I’ve thought that was a cool
idea. I’ve done it a couple times before. Got up at midnight or 1am or 2am,
put on my santa hat, crept downstairs, turned on the tree lights (to see by, and
it’s just pretty), placed my presents, maybe admired it for a little, turned off
the lights, and crept back into my room. And of course, I have to say
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.” But I usually
wisper it.
Estel: Another neat idea. I don’t know any song with those words; sorry! We sometimes put presents in our tree.
